What this calculator is based on

The baseline calculation uses the adult female Estimated Energy Requirement equation from the Dietary Reference Intakes. The lactation adjustment uses the commonly cited U.S. guidance of about 330 additional calories per day in the first 6 months and 400 additional calories per day in months 7–12 for well-nourished breastfeeding women.
